FONDAZIONE INVERNIZZI
The relationship between the Romeo and Enrica Invernizzi Foundation and Bocconi University has strong and deep roots. Established thirty years ago from a genuine alignment of values and goals, this bond has evolved over time, growing and strengthening into a true partnership in support of scientific research, knowledge, and progress. The Invernizzi Foundation is Bocconi University's most important donor, a partner whose significant philanthropic contributions have trained many researchers in the social sciences, supported Bocconi's research, and greatly fostered the growth of the University's PhD School.
Every initiative supported and every investment made by the Invernizzi Foundation has contributed to the progress and dissemination of knowledge, creating a tremendous impact on the world we live in. In 2011, the Foundation established the permanent Romeo and Enrica Invernizzi Chair in Development Economics, assigned to Professor Eliana La Ferrara.
In 2023, the Foundation furthered its commitment to investing in innovative fields of research by establishing two new Chairs: the Romeo and Enrica Invernizzi Chair in Computer Science, assigned to Professor Luca Trevisan, and the Romeo and Enrica Invernizzi Chair in Behavioural Economics and Finance, assigned to Professor Nicola Gennaioli.
In 2024, the Foundation expanded its efforts to foster innovation by contributing to the creation of the Chair in Innovation Management, assigned to Professor Gianmario Verona.
Between 2016 and 2020, the Foundation’s contributions led to the dedication of the ICRIOS - The Invernizzi Center for Research on Innovation, Organization, Strategy, and Entrepreneurship, and the establishment of LEAP - Laboratory for Effective Anti-poverty Policies, in addition to its continued annual support of Bocconi’s research activities and PhD School.
In 2018, the Foundation reaffirmed its commitment by contributing to the creation of the AGRI Lab Romeo and Enrica Invernizzi Agribusiness Research Initiative at SDA Bocconi School of Management and supporting the innovative GREEN Research Center - Geography, Resources, Environment, Energy, and Networks.
Since 2021, the Invernizzi Foundation has supported the Covid Crisis Lab, the BLEST (Bocconi Lab on European Studies), and the scholarship program "A Possible Choice." Through a major donation, the Foundation has also decided to support merit and social mobility with a program aimed at removing socio-economic barriers and opening the University's doors to talented students who would not pursue higher education without financial assistance.
By creating a permanent Chair and a named Research Center (ICRIOS), the Foundation has demonstrated its trust in the University, its mission, and its resource management through its endowment donation. The endowment is the University's capital fund, invested for the long term to generate annual returns, ensuring Bocconi's independence and sustainability over time.
