Gianmario Verona

Gianmario Verona is Full Professor in the Department of Management and Technology at Bocconi University, of which he served as Dean from 2016 to 2022. Prior to his tenure as Rector, he served as Dean for Faculty (2014-2016), Director of the Master in Business Administration (2011-2013), and Director of the PhD in Business Administration (2008-2010).

His research interests focus on strategic management of technology and innovation and entrepreneurship issues, with particular emphasis on the study of digital technologies.
He received his PhD in Business Administration & Management from Bocconi University (1999), after graduating with honors in Business Administration from the same university (1993).

At Bocconi, he held the TIM Chair in Market Innovation from 2012 to 2016 and was Visiting Professor at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and Visiting Scholar at the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Gianmario Verona is an active member of several scholarly communities, including the Academy of Management and the Strategic Management Society of which he was President-Elect of the Competitive Strategy Division. Currently, he holds the position of Associate Editor at the Strategic Management Journal, and was also Co-Editor of Strategic Organization from 2014 to 2017.

Since 2022, he has been President of the Human Technopole Foundation, the Italian institute dedicated to basic life sciences research at the Milan Innovation District (MIND).
 

Joint Purpose

The recent pandemic and global challenges in the midst of digital transformation have prompted society to deeply reconsider the dynamics that characterize productive activities in order to propose, through research, innovative solutions that can ensure respect for fundamental values as of sustainability.

In this context, the Fondazione Romeo ed Enrica Invernizzi, a historical Bocconi Partner in frontier research, has chosen to establish a new Chair in Innovation Management, assigned to Professor Gianmario Verona.

The Chair in Innovation Management represents a unique opportunity to deepen research and development of best practices in the field of innovation management, thus contributing to the progress of the academic world and the growth of skills in this area and make effective the challenge imposed by the twin transformation.

Core Activities

Research

Research carried out within the Chair aims to address key challenges related to innovation by examining the strategies companies adopt to stay ahead of the curve, exploring the intersections between technology, corporate culture and sustainability.

Students

Professor Verona not only focuses rigorously on research activities, but also supports an important teaching mission within the courses taught at different levels ranging from Bachelor's to Executive education through Master of Science and MBA programs. Students will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and develop new skills in the broad field of Innovation Management in an era of twin transformation.

Dissemination

Over the coming years, the Chair will further enrich its impact through the dissemination of the results of research carried out by Prof. Verona. This dissemination will take place through participation in seminars and conferences, organized by the most influential academic institutions and bodies in the field.
