Unicore project: a dream come true for three beneficiaries

Leah, Elizabeth and Benitha are three bright young women who had the chance to realize their dream of studying at one of Europe's top five universities that specialize in the social sciences, after experiencing a background as refugees. A personal triumph they wish to share, hoping to inspire other young peers with similar experiences.

The three students began their academic journey at Bocconi through their involvement in the UNICORE project promoted by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). In collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Caritas and Diaconia Valdese, the project includes 33 Italian universities.

UNICORE's ambitious goal is to offer higher education opportunities in Italy to refugees from Kenya, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe through scholarships made available by universities. Leah, Elizabeth and Benitha, who are supported by full scholarships provided by a generous Donor, are living examples of how determination and support can turn challenges into bright opportunities for the future.

With Leah, Elizabeth and Benitha's arrival, there are now a total of six refugees studying at Bocconi thanks to the UNICORE project. Among them is Hafsa, a young student who chose to tell us her story in a short video.
