Avvocato Giovanni Agnelli Associate Professorship in Economics

Squicciarini

She is an associate professor at Bocconi University, Department of Economics. During the 2022-23 academic year, she is working as a Visiting Professor at Harvard University.

She is also a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and Cesifo, and Research Affiliate at the Innocenzo Gasparini Institute for Economic Research (IGIER), Dondena, LEAP and LICOS.

She was recently awarded an ERC grant on "Education, Diversity, Innovation and Policy".

Joint Purpose

In 2013, the Giovanni Agnelli Foundation became a Strategic Partner of the University by establishing the Avvocato Giovanni Agnelli Associate Professorship in Economics. Since 2023, it has been assigned to Mara Pasquamaria Squicciarini, Associate Professor in the Department of Economics. On the tenth anniversary of the passing of the Italian lawyer, the Foundation decided to invest in this important project to promote the best young talents engaged in research on applied economics. It is an endowed Professorship assigned every five years to a Bocconi professor with an undisputed reputation in their area and whose research interests include applied economics.

Core Activities

Research

Research under the Avvocato Giovanni Agnelli Professorship in Economics will focus on several areas of interest that Professor Squicciarini has explored throughout her academic career. Thus, the Chair's research activities will focus on topics related to economic history and economic growth, with a particular emphasis on the role of religion, culture and human capital in industrialization and economic progress.

The professorship activities will be enriched with the dissemination of Prof. Squicciarini's research results through her participation in seminars and conferences organized by the most prestigious academic and institutional entities.
