The establishment of the endowed Eni Chair in Energy Markets is part of a winning and consolidated tradition that has linked Eni to our University for many years, through a Strategic Partnership that began in in 2007. The relationship with the University is an expression of ENI’s specific focus on the development and dissemination of knowledge through research, innovation and training. The commitment to education, in particular, derives from its founder, Enrico Mattei, who believed strongly in contribution of people to the company’s development. The Eni Chair in Energy Markets has been assigned to Professor Michele Polo, Full Professor of Economics at our university since 2003. He is also President of GREEN (Center for Research in Geography, Natural Resources, Energy, Environment and Networks), which has developed educational and research initiatives on the evolution of energy markets and energy policies over the years, as well as on the issues of the environment and climate change. The establishment of the endowed chair allows the company to constantly dialogue with Bocconi regarding research and teaching activities relating to the entire chain of the energy market and sustainability, from an international economic and managerial perspective. The consolidated relationship between Eni and Bocconi University has also been enriched by exchange and dialogue with Eni Corporate University, which promotes and develops higher education programs with Italian and international universities and creates courses for transversal skills and orientation.

Through the creation of a permanent Chair, Eni has chosen to donate to the endowment, demonstrating that it places great trust in the University, its mission and its management of resources. The University’s endowment fund is capital that the University invests in the long term generating an annual return, which guarantees the independence and sustainability of Bocconi activities over time.
